Feb 6 To whom it may concern, I just received my first issue of Dolls Beautiful, just wanted to say... GREAT JOB!!
I do have a couple of complaints though. I have a studio in Coweta Ok and have had an APP 1/BD1 seminar scheduled for several months. I noticed that I was NOT listed in the DAG Seminars Page OR the Seeley's Product sources Blue Pages!!! What really upsets me is the fact that another issue will not be out until spring at which time my seminar will be OVER!
Luckily, I have filled all my openings and am not having to rely on any advertising through the Guild. Is it possible that I may have my studio listed in the Blue pages in the next issue? And any upcoming seminars I may host?
My second complaint (not really a complaint just a suggestion)...You may want to put those magazines in an envelope or plastic bag. My issue and several of my customers were pretty torn up. Just a suggestion.
Your attention to these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rhonda Norris
Dear Rhonda, Thank you for your note and for the compliment on the magazine.
Blue pages: Please fill out the enclosed form to be included in the Blue Pages (just the bottom portion). You can send/fax this in to the Doll Artisan Guild at 607-432-2042 or to their address.
Envelope/plastic: We may be able to do this later to keep the magazines in better order. We will keep an eye on this.
Thank you again for your membership! Warm regards, Karin Goulian Executive Director

Hello, I have been a member of doll artisan for 9 years. I own a Seeley Doll Studio and use the magazines as source documentation for the dolls and projects. I was real upset with the Jones Publishing and DAG's handling of the membership renewal etc. It seems to me that is what your organizations should be taking care of or at least be on top of what is going on. I received the 1st edition of the Doll Beautiful and I have three suggestions for you folks. 1. First of all the cover format especially the printing in the upper right hand corner is too fine and too light. It does not help the appearance of your cover (which of course if the first impression of a magazine. 2. My magazine arrived yesterday with no plastic protector on it. The cover had scratches and marks on it and looked worse than some I have that are 8 years older. Obviously you are not planning to use them. You might want to reconsider that matter. 3. There are 20 pages of DAG information etc. out of 64 (or one third of the magazine pages) in this magazine. You could have put another article in instead of all the DAG information. Plus advertisement.
May be the Jones Publishing people have something with more article and no ads. I will have to check my latest issue of doll artisan magazine to compare. Unfortunately I do not have the magazine with me at work. I need to write the note today.
People do like to keep up with what is going on. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper and I imagine you will hear from several other people with suggestions. Sandy Tracy
Dear Sandy, Thank you for your note and thank you for adding DOLLS Beautiful to your DAG membership. We very much appreciate your membership.
I am sorry that you felt that the renewal that we sent out was not handled correctly. I tried to make it very clear what was happening in our organization.
1. Our cover will evolve as we continue to grow the magazine. Thanks for the input. 2. Cover for magazine: We will consider this, but it may increase the cost of the magazine. 3. With 5 feature articles, 1 costuming article, 4 technical articles, 1 business article, 3 event reports and member information, we feel that DAG members, like yourself, will be informed of all that the DAG has to offer. (The latest Doll Artisan only had 3 dollmaking articles, a pattern and one history article.)
The magazine is just one facet of the membership. Unless we print membership information, people will not know what events, seminars and other activities are coming up, and what other members are doing. The mix will change slightly with every issue. Our 17 pages of DAG member news (events past and future, seminars, school info and profiles) are typical as to the amount of information we have had in past Doll Artisan magazines (it was an insert before). As we grow with the magazine, we will be able to add more pages and more information. We would also like to receive more advertising to fund the magazine production.
The DAG very much hopes to grow and put information in the magazine that you want. We just finished our survey about what members want out of the DAG and we will be getting right on track.
Thank you so much for your comments. Will we see you at one of our events this year? Let me know if you can think of anything else. Warm regards, Karin Goulian Executive Director

Your magazine "Dolls Beautiful"
Dear Ms. Karin: I have had a great surprise receiving your PREMIERE ISSUE of Dolls Beautiful; because once upon a time I was a collaborator of the Doll Artisan Guild with my very good friend, Rolf Ericson, and for me it is a good reminder of passed time. Now I am only dedicated my work in dollhouse dolls and is not the object of your magazine. Thank you for your remembrance and I wish you great succesful in your new work.
Sincerely yours, MERCEDES ZARDOYA, Spain
February 08 Received my first "Dolls Beautiful" and I loved it. I have cancelled all other magazines except "Gildebrief". All I really need to make beautiful bebes. Dorothy Farrell
Feb 13 Hi Karin - Speaking of the magazine - I think it was superb. Very informative and a good variety of projects. I was a bit disappointed in the photography, but that is a small and picky issue.. I wish you every success with Dolls Beautiful. You are off to a great start. Julie Riehle
Feb 13 Karen: I thought I'd let you know that I was absolutely thrilled with your new subscription {magazine}. It is definitely an accomplishment that does you proud. Thanks for all your efforts. Dorothy L. Ingels
Feb 14 Hi Karlyn, I'm writing to congratulate you and your team on a great Magazine. I was a little confused last month when I received a renewal form from Jones Publishing for Doll Artisan. I'm glad I didn't send any money. Well I must say Doll Beautiful is great. Love the centre page. Your photography is so clear what great painting guides. I have one complaint though. What about Australia. We didn't get much of a mention. In the Show report 2002 Our Doll show and awards weren't mentioned at all. Possibly an over sight due to the change of magazine. I hope we won’t be forgotten I know we are a long way away from U.S.A. But there are a large number of members in Australia and we like to keep informed with what is happening here as well as other parts of the world. What about some photos of our Doll Show. There were some beautiful Dolls entered at our Victorian Doll Show on the 21st and 22nd September 2002. But it wasn't covered. A lot of members received their Masters and Grand Masters etc. But they didn't get a mention. I remember how proud I was when I received mine and my name was printed in Doll Artisan. Maybe an over sight due to all the change over. Don’t want to be a grumbler, just thought I would mention it. Keep up the good work the magazine is great But please don't forget us. Kindest regards, Dorothy Witton
Dear Dorothy, Thanks so much for the wonderful comments on the new magazine. I must say we have been thrilled with the response and always want the in-put. Regarding the Australia show, we did not have the photos, etc, in time for the Premier issue but rest assured it will be covered in our next issue. I just received the photos and list of Award recipients and you can be sure it will have a nice spread. There is no way we will neglect Australia...you guys are too important and always put on such a fantastic event... (Not to mention that I have family there...so you all are never very far from my mind!)
Thanks again for writing. And Greetings to all DOWN UNDER!
BEST WISHES, Karlyn Grzymkowski Editor, DOLLS Beautiful
