ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

Enrollment Information

You may enroll at any point during your education, but enrollment form and proposal must be submitted at least twelve months before estimated graduation date.

You will receive written confirmation of enrollment in approximately 4-6 weeks.

You may receive points for any D.A.G. Specialty seminars that have not been counted against your Master of Dollmaking (MDM) or Grand Master of Dollmaking (GMDM) and seminars that were taken up to four years prior to your DDM enrollment date.

Your membership in the D.A.G. must be kept current at all times. If your membership lapses, you must renew your enrollment in the DAGSD in order to graduate.

You may move your points (partial or all) from the DDM program to the GMDM program by completing the GMDM enrollment form at least two months before estimated graduation date.

You may aim for the DDM title before, after, in addition to, or instead of the GMDM title.

Final project must be submitted at least six months prio to estimated graduation date.

For Europe the title Laureate of Dollmaking is offered.

Requirements:

1. D.A.G. Master of Dollmaking title (either Classic or Modern)

2. Fifteen additional points from D.A.G. Specialty seminars. One point equals one day of seminar attended, e.g. a three day seminar gives you three points. For any seminar a maximum of three points will be given, even if the duration exceeds three days. One Doll One Day and Apprentice seminars are excluded. Repeat seminars do not qualify.

3. All points must be completed at least two months prior to graduation.

4. Blue ribbon in D.A.G. competition in category for authentic reproduction (excluding certain dolls). Doll must be fully dressed with complete costume, including underwear, socks or stockings, wig, hat, shoes, and optional accessories made by contestant. Affidavit to this effect must accompany the doll. Ribbon must be awarded less than two years before completion of requirements.

5. Enrollment fee with completed form (see bottom for downloadable form or to request brochure). Only one proposal per enrollment fee will be considered.

6. Doll for this title can be judged at D.A.G. competitions and at certain other competitions. Please inquire. 

7. Approved Doctoral project which represents a major contribution to porcelain dollmaking involving one or more of the following, (if applicable):

Technical or historical research article(s), book(s) or other publication(s):

 a. Must demonstrate significant original work not previously published by others.

 b. Must have a beneficial impact upon the education of the modern dollmaker.

 c. Must be accompanied by illustrations and/or photographs.

 d. Must be publishable in whole or in part.

Original Work:

 A. Must represent the execution of an original idea or reintroduce an old design modified to utilize modern technology and materials.

 B. Technical procedures must be fully illustrated and/or photographed.

 C. The thesis must be suitable for publication for educating the modern dollmaker.
 a. A fully explained proposal, as well as an outline, of the subject of the DDM project, along with resume, completed enrollment form and enrollment fee must be submitted in English to the Doll Artisan Guild Board of Directors prior to embarking on the project itself, at least one year before estimated graduation. If approved, the project can be undertaken. If completed thesis is not submitted to the Board of Directors for approval within two years of approval of proposal, the proposal will be declared inactive and a new enrollment form, fee and updated proposal will be required.

 b. The thesis must be written in English in the author's own words. Any quotations from books or publications must be surrounded by quotation marks and numbered by source. All pages must be numbered. All sources and page numbers must be listed.

 c. Any illustrations or photographs that are not the original work of the author must have the sources fully documented. Every illustration must have a caption.

 d. The completed project must be submitted to the Board of Directors for review and final approval at least six months prior to the next upcoming graduation ceremony. An interview may be required. If revisions are required, graduation may be delayed. Completed doll with techniques applied may be required to accompany thesis.

 e. The original project submitted for the DDM title and publication rights to the thesis belong to the Doll Artisan Guild. If, with prior approval from the Guild, the thesis is published elsewhere, the following line must be included: "Thesis for D.A.G. Doctor of Dollmaking title. Reprinted with the permission of Doll Artisan Guild."

 f. If the completed project is approved by the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be awarded the diploma and medallion at a ceremony at the next International D.A.G. Convention or other approved event, provided all other prerequisites have been met. Australian recipients of the title will, as an option, be able to receive the diploma and medallion at the Biennial Australian D.A.G. Convention. Should the recipient of the title be unable to be present at either of these events, the diploma and medallion will be sent by mail.

 g.  Board of Directors will review the project a maximum of three times - the initial thesis and two subsequent revisions.

Notes:

 1. The DDM title is an American title given to superior porcelain dollmakers. The title is not a degree and does not imply or represent fulfillment of criteria and prerequisites otherwise associated with a doctor's degree in generally accepted academic context.

 2. The Doll Artisan Guild reserves the right to terminate the DDM program after twelve months' disengagement notice.

 3. The Doll Artisan Guild assumes no direct or indirect responsibility for any legal or other consequences of use of the DDM title by the holder.

4. You must be a Doll Artisan Guild member to enroll.

5. Non-refundable registration Fee of $975.00 (U.S.)
